A man also boarded and sat across from them. He then spent approximately 45 minutes of the journey racially abusing them before leaving the train at Nottingham.

Officers would like to speak to the man in this image, as he may be able to help with enquiries.

Investigating officer PC Mark Burgess said: “Abuse of any kind will absolutely not be tolerated on our railways.

“This incident left the victims feeling frightened for their own safety and so I urge anyone with information to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference 144 of 21/6.
