Four Convicted Following Kidnapping and Torture

A woman and three men who kidnapped and tortured a vulnerable 32-year-old man for four days have been sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison.
All four were sentence at Inner London Crown Court on Thursday, 16 June having previously pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing and was found guilty during a trial at the same court.
Poppy Wick, 23 of Lambert Road, Brixton was found guilty of false imprisonment, robbery and causing grievous bodily harm (GBH).

She was sentenced to five-and-a-half years for false imprisonment; two years for robbery; and three years for GBH. The sentences will run concurrently. She will serve half of the five-and-a-half years and serve the rest on licence.
Adam Jayne-Connell, 26 of Castle Street, Isle of Wight was found guilty of false imprisonment and was sentenced to four years imprisonment. He will serve half of his sentence and spend the rest on licence.
Sam Kay, 27 of Lambert Road, Brixton was found guilty and sentenced to five-and-a-half years for false imprisonment; two years for robbery and 18 months for actual bodily harm. The sentences will run concurrently; he will serve half of the five-and-a-half years in prison and spend the rest on licence.
Dane Wick, 21 of Lambert Road, Brixton was found guilty of false imprisonment and was given a suspended sentence, a 30-day Rehabilitation Order and a three-month curfew (between 19:00hrs and 07:00hrs).
The court heard that on 19 August 2013, at 21:40hrs, officers from Lambeth Borough received reports that a 32-year-old man was being held hostage and tortured at an address in Brixton.
Police went to the house and Poppy Wick answered the door. She claimed to be home alone, but officers conducted a search of the property and found the victim sitting in a corner. He was surrounded by Jayne-Connell and Dane Wick. Kay – who was not present at the time – was arrested at a later date.
The victim, who was covered in cuts and bruises, was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries; he has since made a full recovery.
Lambeth CID launched an investigation and discovered that the victim, who is autistic and extremely vulnerable, had been held captive for four days. His mobile phone, and bank card were stolen. His bank card had been used at various cash machines to withdraw money from his account.
All five were charged on 14 November 2014.
Acting Detective Sergeant Loy Hartwell, from Lambeth CID, said: “This was a despicable crime against a vulnerable member of society. This sentence is absolutely necessary to protect others from falling prey.
“I am relieved that justice has been served in this case which is in no small part down to the assistant and support of victim who gave compelling evidence.”
