November 11, 2014, 5:32 pm

Police are investigating a report that a 24-year-old woman was approached by a man in Washington.

It happened on Wednesday, November 5 at approximately 11.30pm on Stephenson Road in Washington.

The woman was waiting for an arranged lift home when a man in a black car pulled up and asked her if she needed a lift and to go for a drink with him.

He did not get out of the vehicle and made no attempt to touch her.  He then drove off.

The woman was distressed to have been approached and reported the suspicious incident to the police.

The man who approached her is described as being of Asian appearance with afro style hair, around 50-years-old, of thin build and was in a black car possibly a BMW.

Enquires are ongoing into the incident and police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

There are inaccurate and misleading posts about the incident being posted on to Facebook which suggest the woman was physically attacked by a group of men. This is not the case and officers are working to ensure that the community has the correct information.

Anyone with information is asked to get in contact with police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 1756 051114 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
