Man stabbed in South Tyneside

Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault in South Tyneside.

At 9.10am on Monday, November 17, police received a report of a fight taking place between two men at Low Simonside in Jarrow. It’s believed to have happened underneath a pedestrian walkway over Newcastle Road.

On arrival one man, aged 33, who had suffered stab wounds was being treated at the junction of Drummond Crescent and Henderson Road, he has been taken to the RVI for treatment where his condition is described as life threatening.

The second man, aged 31, was arrested in connection with the incident and he is also receiving treatment at the RVI for head injuries, he remains there for observations at this time.

Detective Inspector Dan Mitford said: “We’re working to establish exactly what has happened and officers are out in the area gathering information, speaking with witnesses and reassuring residents.

“This happened in a busy area, at a busy time and I’d appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information about it to get in touch.

“We recognise incidents such as this cause concern and I’d like to reassure people those involved are known to each other and that a man has been arrested.”
