Man jailed for historical sex offences

November 14, 2014, 11:24 am

A Man who sexually abused a young girl in the 1980s has been jailed.

Michael Hollis, 53, of Cathwaite, Peterborough, attacked the girl on a number of occasions at various addresses and places across the city.

He was arrested in January after the victim, now in her 30s, came forward to report the abuse.

Hollis was charged with seven counts of indecent assault and one of gross indecency with a child.

He denied all of the offences but was convicted following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court.

He was jailed for a total of six-and-a-half years on November 13.

Detective Constable Nat Hebdon, who investigated, said: “The victim has shown tremendous bravery on coming forward after such a long time and then giving evidence against him at court.

“Hollis’ offending will have a lasting effect on the victim and I hope she will now be able to put this behind her.

“This case shows that even after three decades, we can support victims of abuse and bring offenders to justice.”
