A man has been charged and another is wanted by police in relation to the investigation into the death of Samuel Walker.

On Sunday 9 February 2003, five-year-old Samuel Walker was knocked down and killed on Hardy Lane, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, by the driver of a silver Mitsubishi Gallant, registered number J722 BUY.

The driver failed to stop at the scene. Three hours after the collision, the owner of the Mitsubishi reported the car stolen to the police.

In September 2012, officers from Greater Manchester Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit reopened the investigation into the death of Samuel.

Following his arrest in 2013, police have today, Wednesday November 5 2014, charged Nawnee Mackin (born 18/12/1979) from Chorlton, with causing death by dangerous driving. He will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on Friday 5th December 2014.

Craig Chevelleau (born 11/01/1980) from Longsight, failed to surrender to police custody and is now wanted for perverting the course of justice.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Lee Westhead said: “Eleven years ago, a five-year-old boy lost his life.

“There are still a great many people in the community of Chorlton-cum-Hardy who have information about the death of Samuel Walker.

“I would urge these people to examine their conscience. If you have any information please do the right thing and come and speak to us, in confidence if necessary.”
