Man appears in court in connection with Farnham burglaries

November 6, 2014, 2:50 pm

A man has appeared in court in relation to a number of burglaries in the Farnham area, as Surrey Police’s crackdown on the seasonal spike in burglary continues.

Gheorghita Onisei, 47, of Weydon Hill Road, Farnham appeared at Guildford Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday 5 November) charged with five counts of burglary.

The charges relate to alleged offences at properties in Crondall Lane on October 16 and 29, Firgrove Hill on October 27 in Farnham, and two offences in Leytonstone, London on June 30 2011.

The Romanian national has been remanded in custody and will next appear at Guildford Crown Court on 27 November.

Surrey Police’s campaign to target the annual increase in burglaries runs until November the 16 this year. It is encouraging the public to remember the three important principles of Light it, Lock it, List it.

Superintendent Jerry Westerman said: “Strong relationships with our partners help us gather intelligence to target burglars not only operating in our county, but cross borders too.

“We are specifically working with Sussex, Kent and Thames Valley to tackle this problem at the moment, but naturally, as we all share borders with London we have to be alert to those crossing into our counties from there too.

“We cannot emphasise enough the distress that a break- in can cause. One of our victims of burglary spoke to us candidly about her experience following a break – in to her home while she and her family where on holiday.”
