Shovel-wielding attackers burst into house and attack residents in Salford

October 28, 2014, 3:37 pm

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men burst into a student house in Higher Broughton and attacked one of the residents with a shovel.

At around midnight on Monday 27th October 2014, two men armed with a trench shovel and a baseball bat burst into the house on Bandy Fields Place in Higher Broughton.

They smashed their way through the double glazed patio doors before chasing the occupants through the house, with one offender cornering a 19-year man and a 19-year-old woman in the hallway and jabbing the man twice in the head with the shovel.

The man was later treated for non-serious head injuries.

Meanwhile, the other offender attempted to get into the living room, where the other students had barricaded themselves in.

The two men gave up and left the address, pausing only to smash the windscreen of a nearby car with the spade as they ran up the road.

The offenders are described as white men in their 20s and wearing dark clothing. Both had their hoods up and had their faces covered during the incident.

Detective Constable Sue West, of Swinton CID, said: “At this stage, we are exploring a number of ideas as to why this particular address was targeted.

“No property was stolen, and no demands were made.

“We have spoken to several witnesses who were there at the time, but we need more people to come forward if they believe they saw two men matching the above description in the area at the time.

“If you saw anything, or can offer any information to assist, no matter how insignificant it might have seemed at the time, please get in touch.

“Your call could help us take these men off the streets.”
