Police are conducting a murder investigation after a 17-year-old boy died after being assaulted outside a Gorton shop.

The victim, who has now been formally identified as Jordan Brennan, was found unresponsive in bed by his mum.

Police have now released an image of a man and a woman they want to speak to in connection with Jordan⿿s death.

At around 7.30pm on Friday, 10 October 2014, Jordan was with two friends when they went into the shop on Hyde Road, Gorton.

As Jordan was leaving he was assaulted outside the shop by a man who had also been in the shop at the same time as Jordan and his two friends.

Jordan went home and went to bed and at 9am on Saturday 11 October 2014 was found in bed unresponsive.

Paramedics were called but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination later found the cause of death was a head injury.

The man is described as of Chinese appearance, around 25/30-years-old, with a stocky or chubby build and black hair. He was wearing a white shirt and a black suit jacket and trousers.

The female is described as of Chinese appearance, around 25/30-years-old, long black straight hair, slim build.

Police have now released a CCTV image showing the man and the woman, and want anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Theresa Carter, of the Major Incident Team, said: “Jordan was very well known and liked and both his family and the wider community are deeply shocked and saddened by what happened.

“At this stage we know that Jordan was assaulted outside the grocer⿿s store, but we don⿿t know exactly what led up to the assault.

“I would also ask that the man involved contacts the police so that we can fully understand what happened inside and outside the shop. We would also like to speak to the woman who he was with.”

Jordan’s mother Kim Brennan paid the following tribute to Jordan:

“Our son Jordan Brennan was 17 years old and was a well liked young man. He was a loveable rogue and was always polite and keen to help anyone who needed his help, be that physical help or just to listen to a friend. He would cheer them up with his usual larking about or joking around. He was a pleasure to have as a son and his loss is devastating. He was greatly loved by all that knew him.”
