Bold officer overpowers violent offender – Police Bravery Awards – Metropolitan Police Service I

October 17, 2014, 6:00 pm

PC Carroll responded to reports that a woman had been stabbed.

On arrival she was met by members of the public and was directed to where the victim was. She had been stabbed multiple times and was in need of urgent medical attention. PC Carroll entered the property, not knowing if the male suspect was still present. She found the victim and immediately started to administer first aid. As she did this, the victim told her that the suspect had returned and was outside.

The suspect was young, powerful and covered in blood. This was an incredibly violent individual, fuelled by drugs and alcohol. He was holding a large glass that had been broken and given the serious and vicious assault endured by the victim, PC Carroll was in very real danger.

Fearing that the suspect would re-enter the house, PC Carroll left the victim in the care of others and went to approach the suspect, who quickly made off. The officer bravely gave chase into a cul-de-sac at which point he turned and threatened her with the glass. Her reaction was to deploy her CS spray but the suspect ran towards her in attack. She was able to overpower and arrest him, holding him to the ground until other officers arrived to assist.

To save the victims life and overcome such a strong, violent individual single-handedly is highly commendable. PC Carroll showed true grit and determination, putting her life on the line to stop this violent offender.
