October 30, 2014, 8:38 am

Detectives have launched an investigation after a woman was assaulted and threatened with rape in the city centre.

It happened at around 8.40am on Thursday 23 October 2014, when a 25-year-old woman was walking along Mirabel Street in Manchester.

She was approached by a man who grabbed hold of her throat and used his forearm to push against a wall.

He then made repeated threats to rape and kill her.

It was only when he was disturbed by two passers-by that he let go of her and ran away.

He is described as Asian, aged between 26 and 27, 6ft tall, of medium build, large eyes, black shaven hair with a full face beard and moustache shaved to stubble.

He was wearing a silver and blue wrist watch on his left wrist, a black hooded jacket, black Nike gloves with a white Nike tick on the back.

Detective Constable Terry Macmillan from North Manchester division, said: “This is a particularly violent incident; this woman was subjected to a horrific and disturbing attack, which has left her traumatised.

“This occurred in Manchesters busy city centre and I am looking for anyone who witnessed the attack, I am especially keen on speaking to the two people who helped the woman.

“If you recognise the description of the man or have any information about the attack, please call us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3925 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
