A group of youths have vandalised a historic memorial in Oldham.
At 7pm on Monday 27 October 2014 police received a report that a group of between 20 and 30 youths had vandalised the memorial at Failsworth Pole and behaved threateningly towards a passerby who tried to stop them.
Officers attended and found the flowers on the memorial and on the adjacent garden had been damaged, but the offenders had already fled the scene.

Police are now investigating and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
Inspector Jim Troisi of Oldham division said: “This is a mindless act of vandalism that has caused upset in the community.
“The memorial is a place of history and remembrance; a place of peace and respect, and to desecrate the memorial in such a disrespectful and reckless way is atrocious.
“I want to reassure the local community that we have extra patrols in the area, both to act as a visible deterrent and provide a visible presence for any concerned residents.
“We are aware of concerns in the local community about anti-social behaviour in the area and I want to remind people that they can speak to us in confidence if they have any worries.
“I would encourage parents to speak to their children and to be aware of who their children are out with and what they are doing.
“We are taking this incident seriously and I would appeal to anyone who knows who is responsible, to do the right thing and contact police.”
