Two injured after fire – Walkden

Two men have suffered facial injuries after a tanker caught fire at industrial premises in Walkden.

Residents in the immediate vicinity are now being advised to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution. There is no evidence at this stage to suggest there is any kind of hazardous substance involved.

It happened at about 2.20pm today, Tuesday, 5 March 2013, at an industrial firm off Harcourt Street, Walkden.

It is believed a stourage tanker containing fuel caught fire. Two members of staff received serious facial burns in the incident and have been taken by air ambulance to Wythenshawe Hospital. Two other people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency services, including fire crews, are now at the scene and the fire is under control.

Residents in neighbouring streets are now being advised to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.

A number of nearby roads including Harcourt Street and Worsley Road North have been closed while emergency services deal with the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area this afternoon.
