Police uncover suspected cannabis factory at Dudley home

March 1, 2013, 1:41 pm

A man was arrested after officers carrying out a warrant into suspected animal cruelty found what is believed to be a cannabis factory at an address in Dudley.

Approximately 30 suspected cannabis plants and associated equipment were found at the home in The Broadway yesterday morning (Wednesday 27 February).

Officers had attended the address with the RSPCA after receiving information about possible animal cruelty.

After executing the warrant the plants and equipment were seized, along with a samurai sword, a knuckle duster and a gas powered firearm. The RSPCA also took six dogs away from the address for further examination.

A 31-year-old has been arrested and bailed pending further investigations.

PC Ian Priest, from Dudley Police, said: “We had been given information from the community that animal cruelty may have been taking place at the address.

“However when we arrived we were surprised to find a suspected cannabis growing setup and dozens of plants.

“These suspected drugs and three offensive weapons have now been seized and taken off our streets.

“This is a great example of police acting on intelligence provided by members of the public and working in partnership with other agencies to take action. We would encourage residents across our communities to come forward and let us know when they become aware of any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.”

Anyone who suspects drug use or any suspicious activity in their local community should contact police on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
