Police are appealing for information after a burglary in South Shields.
At 7.30pm on Sunday, March 10, three men wearing balaclavas and blue overalls and believed to be carrying weapons, forced their way into a property at Salisbury Place.
The occupants challenged the men who left the premises empty handed.
It is believed they may have got into a small five-door silver car and driven towards Westoe Crown village.
The occupants of the house were shocked but unhurt.
Acting Detective Sergeant Paul Challoner said: “An investigation is underway to identify the people responsible and we are appealing for the public to contact us if they have any information that could help with the investigation.”
South Shields Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Nick Gjorven said: “We understand that incidents like this are worrying for local residents and we have extra officers in the area to provide reassurance and answer any concerns residents may have.”
