Man helps woman being attacked in Longsight

March 9, 2013, 3:15 am

Police are appealing to trace a Good Samaritan who helped a woman flee her partner in a domestic related incident in Longsight.

At about 6.30pm on Tuesday 5 March 2013, the offender was on Longden Road when he called the woman, who he knew over to him.

He then grabbed her by the hair and took her to his flat further along the road.

The woman managed to escape running onto Hemmons Road, with the offender chasing after her.

A passerby then confronted the man and a scuffle took place between the pair. The offender swung a hammer at the passerby, but missed instead hitting the woman to the hand.

The woman ran off again, with the offender still chasing her, but she managed to get to safety.

Detective Constable Nick Fernandes said: “This was a terrible ordeal for this woman and she is still badly shaken up by what happened.

“We are determined to find the man responsible for this attack and would urge any witnesses, or anyone with information to call us as soon as possible.

“Our appeal is, however, focused on tracing the Good Samaritan who came to the aid of the woman, and himself was attacked.

“This man did not stick around to leave his details. To assist our investigation, we desperately need him to come forward and speak to us.”
