Man charged after CMPG arrest

March 5, 2013, 11:27 am

A 24-year-old man has been charged with serious offences after he was arrested by officers from Central Motorways Policing Group (CMPG) working in liaison with Cheshire Police.

Andre Stevenson was detained on the M6 southbound between Junction 12 and the M6 Toll junction on Friday morning, 1 March.

This was after Cheshire Police officers were called to an address in Over Tabley, Knutsford, following the report of a robbery at around 8.25am on Friday.

Stevenson, of no fixed abode, was taken into custody in Cheshire and subsequently charged with blackmail, driving a motor vehicle dangerously and escaping from lawful custody at HM Young Offenders Institute Thorn Cross, near Warrington, which is an open prison.

He appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on Saturday, 2 March, and was remanded in custody to appear at Chester Crown Court on 18 March.

In the last three years CMPG has taken £7.5 million of drugs, £4.6 million cash and £4.6 million of other assets from criminals using our roads.
