Man arrested after robberies in Newcastle

A man has been arrested after two robberies in Newcastle.
At 8.40pm on Sunday, March 3, police received a report that a woman had been robbed outside Ladbrokes on Westgate Road.
The woman was threatened by a man on a bike who was armed with a knife, and had her handbag stolen.

A few minutes later police received a further report of a similar robbery at nearby Hartington Street, where a woman had been threatened by a man with a knife and had her handbag stolen.
Officers attended and a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently in custody. The stolen property was recovered.
DI Dave Culverwell, Newcastle CID, said: “We received a report of two robberies in a short space of time and officers immediately arrested a man in the vicinity and recovered some stolen property.
“The two women were not injured but were obviously left shaken following the incidents. Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact police.”
