IPCC arrest former City of London Police officer

March 5, 2013, 2:39 pm

Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigators have today arrested a 52 year old man, a former senior City of London police officer, on suspicion of misconduct in public office in relation to the alleged passing of unauthorized information to a journalist. He was arrested at his home in south west London and is being questioned by IPCC investigators at a police station nearby. Investigators have conducted a search of his home and have seized a number of items.

Todays arrest forms part of the same independent investigation in which a City of London police officer was arrested on 14 June last year and was prompted by evidence gathered during that investigation including further evidence obtained from Operation Elveden. There is no indication at this stage to suggest that these police officers may have received payment for information.

The serving officer arrested in June last year was released from bail but remains a suspect in this investigation.
