March 7, 2013, 4:41 pm

Five men have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery across the Midlands region, between July and October 2012.

Four of these men are charged with a distraction burglary, following which a Wolverhampton pensioner died in August last year.

The men, aged 18, 20, 21 and two aged 22, are due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court  tomorrow (8 March) to face charges of conspiracy to rob.

A total of 28 offences are included in the conspiracy charge following a series of robberies and burglaries across the West Midlands, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire areas.

Six of the charges relate to offences committed on 17 August 2012, including the distraction burglary at the home of 90-year-old Hester Mottershead in Saxonfields, Tettenhall.

Ms Mottershead collapsed a short time after the incident and was taken to hospital, where she subsequently died on 18 August.

Four people, aged 18, 20 and two aged 22, remain on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
