Five Arrested and Firearm Recovered – Toxteth

Officers have arrested three men and two women on suspicion of firearm offences following the discovery of a firearm in Toxteth this morning (Thursday 7 March 2013)

Officers executed a warrant at an address on Selborne Close. During a search of the property, a man tried to escape by climbing over the back fence.

He was pursued by officers and was spotted dropping a bag. Officers recovered the bag and found a gun.

The male, a 17-year-old from the area, was arrested nearby on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Two men, aged 52 and 21, and two women, aged 22 and 54, at the address were also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

All five have been taken to police stations across Merseyside for questioning by detectives. The gun was recovered for examination

Detective Inspector Gayle Rooney from Matrix said: “We are determined to use everything within our powers to take guns off our streets. Information from the public is vital to us and we will continue to act on all information we receive to ensure our communities are safe.

“I appeal to anyone with information about gun crime, in particular where guns are being stored, to call us or Crimestoppers so we can take positive action.”
