CCTV released following Walkden station assault

March 5, 2013, 11:31 am

British Transport Police has released a CCTV image of a man officers would like to speak to in connection with an assault at Walkden rail station.

The incident happened shortly before 1.30pm on 24 November on-board a train travelling towards Manchester.

PC Kris Catterall said: “The victim, a 49-year-old man from Wigan, was on the train when it came to stop at Walkden station.

“AS the doors open to allow passengers onto the service a man and woman steped up from the platform and, without warning, the man punched the victim repeatedly to the face causing cuts and bruises.”

PC Catterall added: “The offender had a distinctive tattoo on the left hand side of his neck and I am now appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“Similarly I would like anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV picture, who I believe may have key information about the assault, to get in touch.”

If you recognise the man or have any information please call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. In all calls please quote log B11/NWA of 4/3/13.
