UPDATE – WITNESS APPEAL – SERIOUS ASSAULT – VICTORIA STREET/SIR THOMAS STREET

Merseyside Police can confirm that the 19-year-old man arrested in connection with this incident has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
A second man, a 20-year-old from Garston, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of assault and has also been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The victim’s condition is now described as stable.
Correction: Please note that the victim is 26-years-old, not 24 as previously stated.

A man has been arrested and witnesses are being sought after another man was assaulted in Liverpool city centre in the early hours.

The victim, who is 24 years old and from Ireland, was found with head injuries in Sir Thomas Street shortly before 4am.

He was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition and is currently being assessed.

A 19-year-old man from the Garston area of Liverpool was arrested nearby on suspicion of assault. He is currently in custody awaiting questioning by detectives.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw an altercation between several men in nearby Victoria Street shortly before 4am.

An area of Victoria Street and Sir Thomas Street is currently cordoned off while officers carry out enquiries, including examining CCTV from the surrounding area.
