Teen inappropriately touched at Wakefield Kirkgate – Police issue CCTV image

February 15, 2013, 2:28 pm

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) investigating an incident at Wakefield Kirkgate station have today issued an image of a male they believe may be able to assist them with their enquiries.

PC Christopher McGlynn, investigating the incident, explained: “A man made inappropriate advances towards a teenage girl at Wakefield Kirkgate station on Friday, 1 February. The victim, a 14-year-old girl, had accidentally boarded the wrong service at Leeds on her way home.

“She left the service at Wakefield Kirkgate around 6.45pm and contacted a family member to collect her.

“Near the exit of the station she was approached by an older man who propositioned her. When the victim declined his advances, the man began to touch her inappropriately.”

The man then walked away from the station and turned left at the end of Monk Street. Police believe the man is aged around 20-years-old, of medium build, with shaven strawberry blonde hair.

PC McGlynn added: “After reviewing CCTV at the station we have identified a man who we would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

“This was understandably a very distressing experience for the victim, who was left incredibly upset and shaken by the mans actions.

“We take incidents of this nature, which fortunately are rare, very seriously and are determined to find the man responsible. Id ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or recognises the mans pictured to contact us urgently.”
