Sentencing of Scott Jones

February 26, 2013, 4:53 pm

Merseyside Police can confirm that on Thursday, 21 February Scott Jones, 29, was sentenced to seven years, four months imprisonment after pleading guilty to two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and assault.

Scott Jones, 29, of Killington Way in Walton appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday, 16 January and pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and section 20 assault.

Last Thursday a judge at Liverpool Crown Court ordered Jones to serve a minimum of seven years and four months.

All of the offences were against one woman and the incident itself took place in October 2012 in Walton. After the matter was reported to the police Jones was arrested by detectives from the force’s Unity rape investigation unit days later and subsequently charged on 16 October 2012.

Detective Inspector Kathy Goodwin, said: “Jones committed horrendous offences against his victim and this court case will have been particularly harrowing for her but hopefully this sentencing will bring her and her family some closure now that justice has been done.

“Rape is a terrible crime in so many ways, not least because it often goes unreported. There is, however, a great deal of support out there for victims, both from the police and others. Only by people summoning up the courage to report it can the perpetrators of sexual violence be brought to justice.”
