Scarborough robbery suspects arrested within minutes of 999 call

February 25, 2013, 11:59 am

Two men are in custody following a robbery in Scarborough this afternoon (23 February 2013)

At around 3.50pm, officers received a call from a jewellers store on Huntriss Row reporting a robbery taking place in which the offender approached a shop assistant and banged a metal bar on a desk. He then approached another member of staff and made his way across the shop floor before grabbing a number of high value watches from a display.

The suspect fled on foot through the town, but thanks to the good description of the offender which was passed to the police and CCTV footage which tracked his movements, within 16 minutes of the call, police officers had arrested both the suspect and another man in his company.

The men, both from Scarborough and aged 39 and 42 were found in Crescent Gardens and taken into police custody where they remain for questioning.

Property has been recovered by the police including a number of watches.

None of the staff were physically injured during the robbery, but they were very shaken up by the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, and ask for Scarborough CID.
