CCTV cameras have been checked and the same person has been seen on both occasions.
Police have released an image of the man and are keen to identify him.
PC Steven Hughes, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Targeting people when they are unwell and undergoing surgery is deplorable and we are working closely with the hospital to identify the person responsible.
“We are looking for a man who is captured on CCTV at times when both thefts have been reported and we are keen to identify him.
