Man sentenced following sexual assault – Ipswich

A 66-year-old man has today, Thursday 14 February been sentenced to nine years imprisonment following a sexual assault in Ipswich in June 2011.
On Sunday 5 June a woman reported that she had been assaulted by a man inside a property in Robin Drive.
Following a thorough investigation police arrested Hilland Matthews of Swallow Road, Ipswich in November 2012. He was subsequently charged with sexual assault, assault by penetration and trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence.

When appearing at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday 18 January Matthews admitted all three offences and was today sentenced to a total of nine years.
Detective Inspector Kevin Hayward of the joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team said:
“Such offences are rare in Suffolk and it is clear from the manner in which this case has been investigated that Suffolk Police will work tirelessly to bring offenders for such crimes to justice.
“This was an awful attack within the victims home. It is hoped that the sentence passed today will bring some justice and closure to the victim of this offence.”
