Linked sexual assaults in Camberwell

February 20, 2013, 11:28 am

Sapphire officers are appealing for witnesses and information following
two sexual assaults on women in Camberwell last month.

Both offences occurred within a week of each other, with locations in
close proximity and with similar suspect descriptions. As such, the
offences are possibly linked.

The first incident occurred on 12 January in Bushey Hill Road, SE5 at
approx. 06:40hrs where a 42-year-old woman was sexually assaulted from
behind. The victim turned and confronted her attacker shouting at him
causing to run away back up Bushey Hill Road towards Peckham Road.

The second incident occurred on 19 January in Ribbon Dance Mews, SE5 at
approx. 01:40hrs where a 27-year-old woman was sexually assaulted. Again
the suspect fled the scene in the direction of Grove Hill Road after the
victim had shouted at him.

The suspect is described in both incidents as a man of oriental
appearance, aged approx. 20-35 years-old.

From the first incident he was described as five foot five inches tall
of middle build wearing a small jacket with no hood and had short black
hair.

From the second incident he was described as having a slight build
wearing a short navy coloured Puffa jacket and had short black spiky
hair and was clean shaven.

PC Helen Davies, the officer in charge of the investigation for the
Sapphire command said: “So far all enquiries, including CCTV, have yet
to identify the suspect so we are appealing to anyone who was in or
around areas at the time of the offences to contact us with anything
they saw.”

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call the
Sapphire team on 020 8721 4621 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555
