Five arrested after Newcastle robbery

Five people have been arrested after a robbery in Newcastle.

It happened at at 7.46pm on Sunday, February 17, when police received a report of a robbery at Booze Express in West Road in the city.

Two men came into the shop, struck a member of staff over the head with a bottle before stealing the till and running off. The victim, a man, was taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged. His injuries are not thought to be serious.

The stolen till was recovered nearby.

Following enquiries police arrested five people in connection with the robbery, two men aged 20, two boys aged 16 and a boy aged 15 are currently in custody helping with enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Ian Paxton said: “Officers attended a report that a robbery was taking place at this location and following enquiries five people have been arrested in connection with it.

“We’re doing everything possible to establish what has happened and I’d urge any witnesses or anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible.”
