Appeal for information following an incident in Gosforth High Street

Police are appealing for information following an incident in Gosforth High Street.
At 7pm on Wednesday, February 20, a woman was walking towards the pedestrian crossing near the junction with Salters Road, when she was approached by a man who grabbed her by the neck, causing her to fall to the ground.
The woman, who is in her 60s, called out for help and the man ran off across the car park towards Salters Road.

The man is described as being in his 20s, about 5ft 6ins to 5ft 7ins tall, of skinny build with very pale skin and dots tattooed on his knuckles. He was wearing dark clothes and a dark coloured woolly hat, possibly grey.
The woman was shocked but not injured by the incident.
DI Dave Culverwell said: “This is quite a busy area and there will have been a number of people around at the time of the incident so we are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or saw a man fitting this description in the area at around that time to get in touch.
“We would also like to hear from a woman who came to the victim’s help as she may have seen the man responsible.”
