A man was seriously assaulted as he smoked a cigarette outside a club in Withington.

It happened at about 2.10am on Sunday 10 February 2013 when a 20-year-old man who was celebrating his birthday walked outside of Red Rum Club on Wilmslow Road.

He was punched in the head and fell to the floor. He banged his head, which led to a bleed on the brain, a perforated eardrum and a fractured jaw.

His attacker ran off in the direction of Egerton Road.

He is described as a white man, tanned skin, aged about 20 to 30, he is taller than 5ft 10in and is a muscular stocky build. He has dark hair and was wearing a red stripped t-shirt.

Detective Constable Craig Barry from South Manchester Division, said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack which has left the victim with serious injuries.

“Were you in the club on the night of the assault and saw a man matching this description.

“However insignificant you think your information is it could be vital to our investigation.

“The person responsible must be caught and we are doing everything we can to find them – if you know who did this or saw something that might help our investigation, please contact me.”
