Three major drug dealers jailed

December 10, 2012, 6:52 pm

Three major drug dealers who played a key part in the supply of heroin among Albanian and Turkish gangs in north London have been jailed at Woolwich Crown Court today, Monday 10 December.

Elidon Sadikaj, 30, Klodian Canaj, 34, and Ozkan Adem, 57, all pleaded guilty for conspiracy to supply heroin with an estimated street value of £35,000 at the same court on Friday, 16 November.

The three were charged following an intelligence-led operation by officers from the London Crime Squad which involved careful surveillance of the trio – and culminated in catching them red-handed with half a kilo of heroin stuffed into a plastic shopping bag.

The court heard how on the evening of Tuesday, 26 June – six days after officers had observed a previous meeting between the three men, Sadikaj and Canaj were seen driving around Grove Park in Lewisham.

After arriving at Harland Road they were joined by their co conspirator Adem, who had parked a short distance from Sadikaj’s vehicle. Adem was clearly seen leaving his car with a supermarket shopping bag before jumping into the back of Sadikaj’s vehicle.

Minutes later, Adem left the vehicle and returned to his own car, no longer carrying the shopping bag.

Officers who concluded that the drugs had been exchanged immediately moved to stop the two respective vehicles and discovered the shopping bag full of heroin that Adem was seen carrying on the backseat of Sadikaj’s car. All three were subsequently arrested.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Hill of the London Crime Squad said: “The operation leading to the conviction and sentencing of these three men is a clear illustration that the Met is committed to tackling criminal networks intent on supplying drugs and making a profit from their illicit activities.

“The purpose of this operation was to target those involved in the supply of drugs amongst the Albanian and Turkish organised criminal networks. We sought to stop an escalation of violence between competing gangs within these communities by targeting their members and stripping these organisations of their criminal assets.

“The operation has culminated in the arrest, charge and conviction of Sadikaj, Canaj and Adem and has removed three key individuals off the streets of London and whilst this is a positive result our work does not end here. We will continue to work tirelessly to keep drugs off the streets by bringing criminals like these to justice.”

Elidon Sadikaj, 30 (30.01.82) of Sirdar Road, N22, was sentenced to two and a half years.

Klodian Canaj, 34 (15.03.78) of Northumberland Park, N17 was sentenced to two and a half years.

Ozkan Adem, 57 (02.03.55) of Waite Davies Road, SE12 was sentenced to four years.
