Operation Elveden arrest

December 6, 2012, 1:13 pm

Officers from the MPS’s Operation Elveden arrested a woman in Sussex
this morning.

Operation Elveden is the investigation into allegations of inappropriate
payments to police and public officials. It is being supervised by the
Independent Police Complaints Commission and is running in conjunction
with Operation Weeting, the MPS inquiry into phone-hacking.

The 38-year-old woman, a journalist (Elveden arrest 53), was arrested at
her home at approx 06.30hrs on suspicion of conspiracy to corrupt
contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1977 and suspicion of conspiracy to
cause misconduct in a public office contrary to the Criminal Law Act
1977.

She was later bailed to return to a Sussex police station on a date in
March 2013.

Today’s arrest was the result of information provided to police by News
Corporation’s Management Standards Committee. It relates to suspected
payments to public officials and is not about seeking journalists to
reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been
obtained legitimately.
