Did you see a man approach a young girl in Carlton

December 5, 2012, 1:54 pm

Police are asking anyone with any information about an incident in Carlton where a young girl was approached by a stranger to call them.

It happened at 7.40pm on Monday (3 December 2012) at the junction of South View Road and Heather Road when a 12-year-old girl was approached from behind by a man she did not know.

He tried to lift her from the ground, but the girl escaped from his grasp and he fled.

The girl was unharmed but shaken by the incident.

The man is described as white and in his 20s or 30s. He had a bald head and was wearing dark clothes.

Detective Sergeant Paul Lefford said: “There is a lot of communication about this incident on social media, much of which is speculation. I would urge people to avoid fuelling the situation with rumours as it is not helpful to the investigation or to your community.

“This appears to have been an isolated incident and we are investigating the circumstances in a bid to identify the man.

“We have increased patrols in the area and are working closely with the schools in the area to ensure children are familiar with the stranger danger principle.

“Anyone who has experienced a similar approach by a man fitting the above description should call police.”

If you saw the incident or have any information about the mans identity please contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 725 on 3 December 2012, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
