December 6, 2012, 10:51 am

wo men donning ski masks manhandled and tried to rob a man in Prestwich.

At about 9.50am on Monday 3 December 2012, the 55-year-old man was walking along St Margarets Road on his way to the bank to deposit takings from his pub.

When he was near the Fresh Cookie, two men pulled at his clothes and demanded cash.

After a brief struggle, the pair left empty handed and got into a waiting 3-series BMW. A CCTV image of the car has been released.

Both offenders are white, about 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall and of slim build. They had their faces covered with what are described as dark coloured woollen ski masks with openings for the eyes and mouth.

Detective Constable Alison Byrne said: “This was a violent attack which the victim had to fight hard to resist. One witness at the scene described the offenders as attacking the victim ⿿like a pack of hyenas⿿.

“We are appealing for anyone that may have witnessed this robbery attempt or saw a car matching the description in the area.

“Luckily, these two would-be thieves were disturbed and didn’t manage to steal anything from the victim but we are keen to identify them.

“If you are a witness or have any information about who these two men may be then please contact me to assist in our enquiries.”
