Arrest After Stranger Encounter

December 6, 2012, 3:54 pm

A man has been arrested in connection with a suspicious incident in which a
young girl was approached by a stranger.

A 29-year-old man was questioned by police today (Thursday 6 December
0212) about the incident. He was bailed pending further enquiries.

At around 7.40pm on Monday (3 December 2012), at the junction between
West View Road and Heather Road, a 12-year-old girl was approached from
behind by a man she did not know.

He tried to lift her from the ground, but the girl escaped from his grasp and he
fled.

The girl was unharmed but shaken by the incident.

Detective Sergeant Paul Lefford said: “While we have made an arrest we are
still appealing to witnesses, anyone with any information, or anyone who has
recently experienced a similar encounter to call us.

“It appears to have been an isolated incident, but we have increased patrols
in the area and are working closely with local schools to ensure children are
familiar with the stranger danger principle.”
