12 year old girl sexually assaulted in Bury

A twelve-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on her way home from school in Bury.

Between 4.35pm and 4.45pm on Wednesday 21 November 2012, a 12-year-old-girl wearing her school uniform was walking along Polefield Road, towards St Margaret⿿s Road when a man walked up to her.

He followed her as she crossed the road, he sped up and walked alongside her. He started to speak to her, she became scared and ran off.

He ran after the victim and sexually assaulted her. The young girl shouted for help from a passerby, which startled the offender who ran off towards Heaton Park.

He is described as about 5ft 2in tall, in his late teens; he had stubble around his chin. He had a long nose, brown eyes and a rectangular shaped face.

He wore a knee length greeny brown jacket with a hood, which was pulled up over his head.

He wore a horizontally striped black and white t-shirt and baggy blue jeans. He spoken with a local accent.

Police Constable Leigh Palfreeman from Bury police station, said: “This was obviously a terrifying attack that has left the victim shaken and we are determined to find who is responsible.

“The local community is bound to be concerned about this incident and I would like to reassure them we are investigating the case thoroughly.

“I would urge anyone who saw a man fitting this description to contact us as soon as possible.”
