Woman charged with murder following house fire

November 19, 2012, 2:40 pm

A 38-year-old woman will appear before Birmingham Crown Court tomorrow (Tuesday 20 November) charged with the murder of Nussrat Begum.

Miss Bugum, 36, died when the Edgbaston house she was staying in with friends was torched earlier this month (5 November).  From Pakistan, she arrived in the country in May to visit her parents who live in Birmingham.

Three other people leapt from first floor windows to escape the inferno.  They were taken to hospital with serious injuries where they remain in a stable condition. Nussrat was rescued from the blaze but died in hospital.

The woman from Kingsheath was charged yesterday and briefly appeared before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.  She was remanded in custody to appear before the city’s crown court tomorrow charged with the murder of Nussrat and the attempted murder of the man and two women who remain in hospital.

Two other people remain on police bail in relation to the arson.
