Woman arrested following death of man

November 21, 2012, 11:16 am

A woman has been arrested after a man died in Stockport.

At around 11.30pm on Tuesday 20 November 2012, police were called to a house on John Avenue, Cheadle by the ambulance service, who were treating a man with stab injuries.

Officers attended and a 32-year-old man was taken to hospital where he died a short time afterwards.

A 41-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place later today.

Chief Superintendent Chris Sykes, divisional commander of Stockport, said: “Sadly a young man has died and I want to reassure his loved ones as well as his neighbours, friends and the local community that we will do everything we can to establish how and why he came to be injured.

“A woman has been arrested and will be interviewed throughout the day by my staff.

“We do not believe there to be a threat to anyone else but will have officers in and around the area if anyone wants to come and talk to us.”
