Volunteers needed for new youth club

November 28, 2012, 11:42 am

The Bradwell Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) are looking to set up a new youth club in the area – and are appealing for volunteers to come forward to help run it.

Work has been going on to find a venue and plan how the club would be run and now these basics are in place the hunt is on for local people to help.

PCSO Candice Pembroke, of the SNT, who is trying to get the initiative up and running, said; “It appears we may be able to use the Mill Lane community centre on a Friday evening and there is support for the project however we will not be able to progress it further unless we can find volunteers to help.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may be interested in getting involved. You wouldnt have to do every Friday night but if we can find a few people who could do every other Friday for example we would soon have enough volunteers to be able to run this.

“With the facilities on the site we would look to do a range of activities including football, basketball and cooking but we would also have games, a sound system and tuck shop for those who just want to meet up with their friends. If possible we would like to do two sessions for younger and older age groups and get this running as soon as we can.”

Young people often say they have nowhere to meet up with their friends, and this can lead to problems with anti-social behaviour, so the initiative aims to give another option for a place to go as well as offering the chance to learn new skills and take part in activities.

Candice says; “Volunteers would be making a real difference both helping young people and their communities and we would like to hear from anyone who may be able to spare a few hours on a regular basis or just occasionally.”

If you would like to find out more please contact Candice by calling her at Bradwell Safer Neighbourhood Team via the new non-emergency police number 101 or email bradwellSNT@norfolk.pnn.police.uk.
