Thousands of litres of fuel stolen in garage raids

November 14, 2012, 3:56 pm

Thousands of litres of fuel have been stolen from a Black Country garage forecourt.

Thieves struck at Morrisons petrol station on the Black Country route in Bilston on Sunday evening, siphoning off 8000 litres of fuel from tanks at the supermarket site. The theft took place over a 30 minute period, between between 7.45pm and 8.20pm, whilst the garage was closed.

The theft follows a similar incident on the evening of Tuesday 30 October, when 15,000 litres of fuel was stolen from a petrol station on Manor Way, Halesowen.

Inspector Peter Haywood, from Bilston police station, said: “This has been done by a professional outfit, who has the knowledge and experience to be able to gain access to the fuel tanks.

“They drove onto the forecourt in a truck of some sort, with red curtained sides and a red and white cab.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously at the locations of the two thefts; we would also like to hear from anyone who has been offered fuel from anywhere other than a reputable source.”
