Suspected stolen vehicle tracked by officers and police helicopter

November 21, 2012, 12:27 pm

A Tividale man has been arrested after he was tracked by officers and the police helicopter last night (20 November).

A car, which is believed to have been stolen from a burglary in Coventry earlier this month, was spotted by officers in West Bromwich just before 9pm.

The suspected stolen vehicle, a MG ZT, failed to stop for officers and a short pursuit took place which was abandoned after officers deemed it too dangerous to continue. But the car was not lost, as the police helicopter was in the vicinity and followed the sporty saloon to New England Close where it was abandoned by its driver.

The helicopter continued to follow the man, directing officers to his location.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle from Brades Rise in Oldbury just after 9.15pm.

He is currently in custody helping police with their enquiries.
