Shooting in Merseyside

November 20, 2012, 7:00 pm

Merseyside Police is appealing for information following the injury shooting in Wavertree yesterday (Monday, 19 November 2012).

A 31-year-old man received multiple gun shot wounds as he was pulling into his driveway at the junction of Woolton Road and Beauclair Drive at 5.30pm. He remains in hospital at this time and his condition is described as critical.

House-to-house enquiries are still underway in the area and specialist search officers from the Matrix team have carried out a line search. The immediate scene just in to Beauclair Drive remains sealed this afternoon.

Detective Chief Superintendent, Paul Richarson the head of Matrix said: “We are treating this as attempted murder and the victim has extremely serious injuries and his condition is critical.

“We believe the victim was pulling on to his driveway when he was approached by two armed men, who both fired shots at the car. They then got into a dark coloured hatch back car and left the scene.

“Five minutes later we received a call from a member of the public reporting that a car was on fire in Waldgrave Road in Wavertree near to the Rocket flyover. That car was a Citroen C4, which had been stolen a month ago and was on false number plates. Detectives are currently trying to establish if the car is connected to the incident and I would appeal to anyone who may have information about where this car has been kept for the last month to come forward.”
He continued: “The scene of the shooting is extremely close to Queens Drive in Wavertree, this is a major route in the city and would have been extremely busy around the time of the incident. There is every possibility someone may have seen these men in Beauclair Drive, or surrounding area, either before or after the shooting. I would urge anyone who was in the area between 5pm and 6pm to contact us if they saw anything at all out of the ordinary which could be linked to our investigation.

“The investigation is in its early stages and we are still trying to ascertain the motive behind the attack. However, we do believe this was a targeted attack on the victim and there is no doubt in my mind that the offenders intended to kill him.

“This is a quiet suburban area of Liverpool, which has extremely low levels of crime. Incidents of this nature are extremely rare and I understand that members of the community may be anxious. I would like to reassure residents and people who work in the area that we are doing our utmost to find those responsible for this cold blooded attack and officers from the area, supplemented by officers from the specialist Matrix team, will be providing increased patrols in this area in the coming days.”
At the time of the attack the two offenders were wearking balaclavas and dark coloured anorak type jackets.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the specialist Matrix team on 0151 777 5699. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
