Man grapples with would-be thieves – Droylsden

November 16, 2012, 11:25 am

A man was confronted by three men wearing ski masks during an attempted burglary at his home in Droyslden.

It happened at a house on Fairfield Avenue at about 1.10pm on 13 November 2012.

The homeowner, 41, heard a crash outside his front door and discovered the three offenders had pulled up outside his house in a old-style silver Land Rover and kicked the front door down.

The man confronted the masked offenders and a scuffle ensued in the garden as the homeowner tried to prevent them from getting inside.

Eventually, the trio gave up and got back into the Land Rover, driving off towards Droylsden along Broadway.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The three offenders were said to be white and wearing black ski masks. One was wearing green Adidas trainers and blue tracksuit bottoms.

Police Constable Steve Whiteley said: “This could easily have turned very nasty for the victim, who is still very badly shaken after his ordeal.

“Luckily, he was not seriously injured but the intent of the offenders was there and therefore we need to identify who these people are and bring them to justice.

“I particularly want to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident itself, or knows the whereabouts of what is quite a distinctive, old-style Land Rover.

“If you do have any information then we need to hear from you.”
