Great Yarmouth Sex Offender Jailed

November 28, 2012, 4:37 pm

A 55-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to a string of sexual offences against two young females.

John Reginald Williams of George Street, Great Yarmouth, was jailed at Norwich Crown Court today (Wednesday 28 November 2012) after previously pleading guilty to 10 counts of rape, one count of making an indecent photograph of a child and three counts of possessing indecent photographs of children.

The offences involved girls under the age of 16 and took place between the mid 1990s and 2011. Detectives also discovered indecent images and movies on a computer hard drive and a number of memory sticks belonging to Williams. A number of images were of Level 5 – the highest classification.

Det Con Nikki Clarke of Norfolk Constabulary who lead the investigation, said: “Williams committed these terrible offences against two vulnerable young girls who until recently had been too scared to come forward and we would like to commend them for the bravery they have shown.

“By pleading not guilty, until he changed his plea on the first day of trial, Williams forced the victims to believe they would have to relive the ordeal in court, this has proven an immensely stressful experience.

“It has taken an enormous amount of courage on their part, and we hope such a sentence will give them a sense of closure, and that they can now move on positively with their lives.”

Williams pleaded guilty to the above 14 counts at Norwich Crown Court on Monday 5 November 2012. As well as receiving a custodial sentence today, Judge Lucraft also ordered Williams to be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life unless deemed otherwise in the future.
