Fourth arrest into alleged blackmail linked to animal rights extremism

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command have
this morning made a fourth arrest in an ongoing investigation into
alleged blackmail linked to animal rights extremism.

A 39-year-old man [D] was arrested at a police station in Leeds on
suspicion of a conspiracy to blackmail, contrary to section 1(1) of the
Criminal Law Act 1977.

He has since been bailed to return to a Leeds police station on a date
in January 2013.

This operation has been led by the Metropolitan Police Service Counter
Terrorism Command, in liaison with the National Domestic Extremism Unit
(NDEU) and the Dutch National Crime Squad.

+ Three other arrests have been made as part of this inquiry: One London
woman has been charged with conspiracy to blackmail; a man and a woman
arrested in Amsterdam are on conditional bail pending extradition to the
UK.
