November 19, 2012, 4:47 pm

Preparations for this years Llanelli Christmas Carnival are well underway and Llanelli officers are also gearing up for a busy night policing the town centre.

“The carnival is always a big draw with the crowds, and Im sure this year will be no different,” said Inspector Neil Jones, the officer in charge of uniformed policing for the town centre. “Our officers and colleagues from the Special Constabulary will be out and about along the carnival route and throughout the town centre, making sure that things run as smoothly as possible.

“We want people to enjoy this event, but to do so safely and sensibly. So Id ask that people be mindful this is a family event, and behave appropriately.

“Well be linking in with local licensees to make sure no-one underage is sold any alcohol and we will be taking a firm stance against criminal and anti-social behaviour associated with excessive drinking. ”

Police Community Support Officers have also been out and about this week visiting local schools and reminding youngsters of the law when it comes to underage drinking..

“Id like to remind youngsters that underage drinking is illegal and appropriate action will be taken against anyone caught drinking underage or selling alcohol to those who are underage,” said Sergeant Justin Evans. “And also Id like to ask parents to make sure they know where their children will be this carnival night.”
