Anti-Social Driving Magherafelt

November 26, 2012, 2:12 pm

Police in Magherafelt continue to work tirelessly to tackle the issue of anti-social driving in the Draperstown and Maghera areas.
Having listened to the concerns raised by the local community about this issue, Police have stepped up patrols in recent weeks. Area Commander, Chief Inspector Sam Donaldson said, “I would like to assure the community we always take the issue of dangerous driving and vehicle nuisance seriously and having listened to the community I have invested in providing additional dedicated patrols in Draperstown and Maghera.
“This increased police presence over recent weeks will continue and and we will carry out further operations and general checks in order to reduce the number of people killed or injured on our roads to reduce this type of crime. I ask anyone who witnesses anti-social driving to report it immediately and I can assure the public that we will speak to every driver who is identified and give a warning or advice about their driving.
“I would strongly urge all motorists to drive safely, as we will be gathering information on all drivers who are consistently involved in careless driving. If you continue to flout the law you will be prosecuted.”
Police patrols have been conducted every night over the last few weeks and police have arrested a disqualified driver and arrested another for dangerous driving. A number of warnings were also issued for careless driving, defective lights and penalty tickets were issued for excessive speed.
Police will continue to focus attention on motorists who drive carelessly or dangerously. Motorists are urged to drive safely.
