Young man assaulted in Coventry

September 18, 2012, 10:07 am

A young man suffered a unprovoked attack in Coventry city centre after a group of four men and a woman shouted abuse at him in the street.

The 21-year-old victim, who had been celebrating his graduation from university, was walking along Jordan Well in the city centre at around 3am on Saturday 18 August, when he heard the group shouting abuse at him.

On confronting the group one of the four men placed him into a head and arm restraint whilst he was repeatedly hit and punched by the woman and another man.

The victim sustained a fractured eye socket and broken nose from the unprovoked attack.

PC Shaun Haywood, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was a sickening unprovoked attack on a young man, the actions of this group were cowardly and despicable leaving the victim very intimidated and distressed.

“We take incidents like this very seriously and we are urging anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward to help us trace those responsible.

“We believe there were a number of people getting into taxis near to The Oak pub and Ellen Terry building at the time of the attack. With students returning to the area this week, we are hoping that someone with information will come forward”.

The woman is described as white approximately 5ft 8, of slim build with shoulder length medium brown hair. One of the men is described as white approximately 6ft of slim build with short hair.
